“Complicated” by Fly by Midnight
New York based indie pop duo Fly By Midnight are already a favorite of mine, but now they have decided to really get everyone to become a fan. With their The Boombox Series EP they take tracks from the early part of the millennia and give them their own spin. By taking each and giving them their own spark, they turn them into pop gems that are sure to connect with fans of the originals and fans of other genres. I am grateful to be able to premiere one of those gems with their take on “Complicated” which was originally performed by punk/rock princess Avril Lavigne. They deliver a mellowed out version which still keeps the fire of the original while creating a soundscape that is more melancholic and bittersweet but so haunting and honest. Honestly this song is hands down one hell of a cover and you should really get into it, because it is just amazing. Remember their name because this pair is going places and those places involve you, me and everyone else seeing them live in one of those amazing festivals everyone is talking about (you know like SXSW, ACL, Pal Norte, Firefly, KABOOM, Coachella, etc). So listen, dive into their sound and enjoy!
