What artists motivated you into music? why?

It’s actually kinda funny, I think the first song that made me decide I wanted to write music was “Where I Stood” by Missy Higgins.

If I recall correctly, I was watching Smallville when I was a kid and Clark Kent and Lana Lang were breaking up and while Lana was driving out away down a dirt road, That Missy Higgins song came on and I was like “Wow… This is really sad. I wanna make people sad!”

That’s so messed up, haha! But really! It was because of the manifestation of the emotion that I felt watching that moment with that song amplifying that feeling that made me want to start writing music.

I think the artists that made me want to write were good ol’ Missy, and then Avril Lavigne, Green Day and Thrice… Kind of a bizarre grouping. My taste has definitely changed but those are classics for me.

What inspires your songwriting?

Like I said with that Missy Higgins song. I love the idea of creating a moment that people can empathize with that then brings out a specific emotion… Kind of like manipulating the heart to feel a certain way. I love the power that music has with that.

Speak to me about “Other Side” and what it means to you? What motivated the lyrics?

“Other Side” was coming from feeling vulnerable. It’s the fear and the excitement of giving your whole heart to someone with the risk of giving them the responsibility of doing whatever they want with it and hoping that the act will be reciprocated.

The lyrics were motivated from the first relationship that I had where I felt like I gave everything in me. While I was sacrificing friendships and opportunities, She didn’t really acknowledge it and then eventually took advantage etc… Basically your typical “Give-Take” relationship junk. “Other Side” is about the relationships that happen after something like that. Wanting to give someone everything but still afraid of the risks. But while I was writing it, I realized that it wasn’t necessarily bound to that idea, Any relationship or friendship can completely share the emotion of this song!

How would you categorize your music? (it’s a unique sound you’ve created here)

I… Honestly… Have no clue. One moment I think it’s Alternative, the other it’s Pop and then again Indie. I think at the moment I prefer living in the Grey area of saying it’s Alternative, haha. That’s such a broad genre right now that it gives me the freedom to write however I want which is nice because I feel like I’m still trying to figure it out.

Current Album on your car or if streaming a playlist provide a short list of them?

For You -Leon

Georgica Pond – JohnnySwim

Kung Fu Panda – Hans Zimmer (Hater’s gonna hate but this score is epic)

Transformers – Steve Jablonsky

Best experience in music so far? (live show, a fan in the street, a shout out from someone, etc)

Oh! I think the sweetest moment was when I was getting coffee with an old friend of mine in North Portland, Which I seldom ever go. I was super sad about something regarding the feeling of complete uselessness and unimportant (Side note, I can be dramatic) and literally right when we sat down, this random guy came up to me and ask if I was Bo Baskoro. I have a terrible memory so I just assumed this guy was from my side of town and I just forgot who he was… Which I then started to feel super guilty about. So I said, “Hi! Yeah, Do I know you?” He said “ Oh, no I actually just follow you on the medias and I’m actually a huge fan of ‘The Woman’ (My first single). Dude, that melody and the tones of those guitars are awesome!”.

That was literally the most affirming and sweetest thing I had ever heard from anybody about me and my music! That guy was so cool and sweet and this really rad band! So I think from now on, whenever I have a show, I’ll ask if there’s an Oscar in the crowd!

What can we expect for 2017? any festivals/shows/gigs we should look out for?

2017 has already turned my world upside, haha. I do have a lot of gigs coming up and I’ve got some sweet shows with some of my favorite local artists. However, Earlier this year they found a Tumor, Labral tear and Cartilage degeneration in my right hip, so I had to get surgery earlier this month and I won’t be able to walk on my own for most of the year. So those shows are going to be awesome and super funny because you’ll be seeing me hanging on crutches haha! But this has definitely come as the best inconvenience I could have had because now, I’ll just be writing and practicing a bunch so hopefully, next time people see me, they may actually be impressed haha!

Your personal mantra and/or philosophy for life and music?

You don’t see change in the comfort zone!

This wolf wants to wish Bo the best and a speedy recovery, I am sure you’ll continue putting some amazing melodies and once healed you’ll reclaim your kingdom in the stage fully.
