Oh Malo
What’s the story behind the band name? Does it have to do with the Spanish translation?
The band name is actually French, named after Saint-Malo, France. I (Brandon Hafetz) wrote the very beginnings of the material for our record back when I was there in 2011 for a school trip. It was the most tranquil and surreal place I’ve ever been to.
When on tour, what’s the one food you all have to eat? Which one is a life saver when hungry and you don’t have much time?
We love our energy/chewy bars and anything cereal/granola esc. We get so sick of dried sugary foods and chips by the end of tour but they really are our savior when we’re in the thick of it.
What musical acts inspired you when you created Oh Malo?
Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Jeff Buckley, & Young the Giant to name a few.
What inspired “Miss You”?
“Miss You” and the rest of ‘As We Were’ was inspired by the long winded breakup I had before starting the band. That song came towards the end of emotional process so it was a fair deal gentler and passively voiced compared to many of the more intense tracks on the LP.
One word to describe the band?
Shape-shifting
Expectations for 2017?
We’re hoping to get back into the studio with a new record and complete our first national tour in the US~!
Texas? Yes? No? Maybe?
Definitely, we’re working on booking shows for our next tour in Houston and Austin as we speak!
Any band Mantra?
Don’t take anything personally.
